Mauston Rest Stop

Mauston Rest Stop

Mauston, WI

Reviewed November 4th, 2004

The Mauston/Tomah stretch of I-94 is a notorious resting point for weary travelers making their way across Wisconsin. For those wishing to bypass the crude commercialistic Twinkie-laden wonderland of truckstops and fast food joints usually crawling with hippies (on their way to the Bong Recreation Area) or greasy unshaven sexually frustrated 18-wheeler driving riff-raff, this rest stop is a welcome relief. Located just adjacent to the highway with it's own on/off ramp, obviously the ease of access is a draw - especially if you happen to have a large vehicle or trailer or have difficulty understanding all the complexities of stop signs and curbs and what not.

The facility is spacious, new and well-lit. There are four restrooms total - each one infinitely better equipped and maintained than your average Kwiq-Twip Fyool 'n' Go. Sure, you may not be able to load up on Combos and Snapple but there are drinking fountains and a Coca-Cola vending machine to quench your thirst. Thirty seconds later, you'll find yourself back on the freeway at 78 mph almost oblivious to the fact that you've even stopped - yet surprisingly refreshed and ready to tackle that next stretch of the open road.
