Dashen Ethiopian Restaurant and Bar
Minneapolis, MN
Reviewed November 6th, 2004
While most of this Ethiopian restaurant/bar is clad in deep wood tones and rich tastefully colorful tones, you will notice a bit more creative liberty being taken as you enter the restrooms, located near the back. The walls are covered in garishly loud pink paint - a color perhaps previously nonexistent in the visible spectrum. Pair this monstrosity with earthen slate and you have enough to make Christopher Lowell cringe. Having said that, the relative newness of all the components of this restroom made for a rather pleasant appearance. After all, spending 30 seconds in a small noxiously colored room is sometimes refreshing and exciting... provided you're not in there for more than 30 seconds. There's a reason prisons and schools don't paint their walls this color.
Men should be wary of using the urinal as it's awkward location may allow patrons at the bar to get a peek at you peeing when the large wood door swings open. There is not much more privacy available at the toilet due to it's total lack of privacy barrier. I could not imagine the discomfort you might experience trying to have a movement while men are washing their hands not more than 2 feet away. This facility may fare better on a "one-at-a-time" basis.
