Panera - Uptown

Panera - Uptown

Minneapolis, MN

Reviewed February 14th, 2005

Sure it's hip to complain about the chain-ification of Uptown. It started with the usual GAP and Starbucks. Now, everywhere you turn the Jimmy John's are giving the boot to the quirky one-off diners that made Uptown what it is. Of course in this case, Panera ousted a Baskin Robbins in a corporate power struggle where artisan bread beats 31 flavors. So who are you to complain? They make a mighty tasty sandwich anyway.

The restrooms were quite clean and new with the staple Panera-Orange (Behr has a swatch called that now I believe) walls. Perhaps to discourage riff-raff coming in from the streets, they are located all the way at the end of the order line. Or perhaps it's so anyone off the street wanting to use the restroom has to walk past 50 yards of breads, sandwiches, soups and beverages.
