El Loro
Savage, MN
Reviewed February 22nd, 2005
El Loro is a restaurant where I am humbled by the truth about my Spanish skills. Make that my "Spanish skills" heh, heh. El Loro is also a place to listen to Mariachi music while consuming diuretics, like cafe or cerveza. See there, that was Spanish right there. Isn't it hot? Contrary to popular belief, nobody speaks "Mexican" because there is no language called "Mexican." There is only Spanish, which I do not speak well, amigos. At El Loro, they have El Bano, which means bathroom and is pronounced BAN-YO. See, I DID know that one. In my profession, I am expected to know the word for bathroom in twenty different languages and systems of gesture, sign and semaphore. However, since I am new to the business, I only know the word in two languages, or dos if that sounds more cool. However if dos does not sound more cool, we'll just say "two" to keep it real. The El Banos at El Loro are muy pequeno, as in "small." To be quite blunt, I'd call them banoitos (ban-yo-eat-toes) no banditos, "little bathrooms not bandits" since they have none. The mujeres has two stalls and the hombres has one stall and one, itty bitty urinario. What they both have is a tall painted sign which designates "damas" on the left and "hombres" on the right. What does that mean? Go look it up in a book of Mexican, if you can find one.- Justin Teerlinck
