Super America - East Lake Street
Minneapolis, MN

Newly opened (well newly torn down and rebuilt), this Super America gas station features what could be a rock-solid restroom experience if not for one very important matter - hygiene. I call it a "matter" because that is exactly what I saw smattered across the men's room toilet. Matter. Fecal to be exact. It was all over the seat and down the side. Even the flusher had some sort of muddy smear on it. Can you blame me for not flushing?Squalidness aside, I did allude to some positive elements so let's break those down. Autosensing lights were a great touch for conserving energy and avoiding having to touch a light switch. The tilework was quite impressive. With complete floor and wall coverage as well as a center floor drain (as dictated by code), I reckon it would be possible to rig up a shower system in here. In fact, if I was homeless this would be a great place to go to clean up. The door has a solid lock and you could easily spend 5 or 10 minutes scrubbing up without drawing any suspicions. The soap was even topped off.
The real draw of this restroom though lies with it's industrial strength hand-dryer. I have to admit I chuckled when I first saw the label on the "XLerator" hand-dryer which read "FEEL THE POWER". But seriously folks, this is no joke. Simply wave your hands beneath this powerhouse and you're greeted by the noise and windpower of a damned jet turbine. I would've wet my pants if I hadn't just used the toilet... and smeared poop all over... er um.. nothing.
