Frontenac State Park

Frontenac, MN

Reviewed April 2nd, 2005

All of the outhouses at Frontenac State Park have labels on the front such as M-547 or M-145. Presumably this is for tracking maintenance of the numerous facilities dotted throughout the trails and campsites. If I were if charge of maintaining these buildings, I think I might prefer more personable or easy-to-remember names such as Pokemon or Thor, but that's just me I guess. I'm not one to interfere with government data handling processes - especially in regards to outhouse maintenance.

Clearly labeled on the outside with MEN and WOMEN, I think more appropriate labels may have been MAN and WOMAN because these are single person facilities. On the other side of the sky blue plywood door was your standard sinkhole toilet. Amenities were non-existent unless you count the gigantic roll of toiletpaper (emphasis on the PAPER) and reliable exhaust vent. Despite mounds of festering material at the bottom of the pit, I could hardly detect a scent of it. Of course the numerous flies buzzing around inside must have as they were unseasonably active for an early April day.

Unfortunately the larger posh restrooms (i.e. electricity and plumbing) near the main parking lot were not yet open for the season.
