Border Bar

Border Bar

Taylors Falls, MN

Reviewed April 3rd, 2005

"Supe Pat Never Pull Over '04. Stop for cars! Penske File. Red dog '04!" reads the mysterious graffiti on the paper towel dispenser. In the Taylors Falls/St. Croix Falls area along the Minnesota Wisconsin border, drinking and driving never go hand in hand... because one hand holds the beer and the other hand holds the steering wheel. At the Border Bar like most other redneck dives in the area, the blood alcohol levels are shockingly similar to the I.Q. levels. Still the place has its ambiance, with dollar bills marked with personal Sharpie scrawled messages hanging from every inch of the ceiling and the Deer Hunter II arcade game, one could argue that camouflage is not the dress code here - as long as you have your black leather Harley-Davidson jacket and ZZ Top beard. Unlike most dives, the bathroom is a single entry one shitter with no trough. A wall paper border near the ceiling shows interchangeable pictures of martini and margarita glasses with a recipe for making each. I don't know what was in the women's but I'm guessing it didn't have a trough either.
