Denny's

Denny's

Minneapolis, MN

Reviewed May 5th, 2005

Denny's. The last great bastian of corporately controlled nouveau-Americana that has not fallen prey to whims of fad diets or the broad demographic trends of the first years of this millenium. The restrooms here are a reflection of that mentality. A sort of tribute to no particular era. A no-man's land of interior decorating where the words "style" and "substance" are only used by barbers and scientists. A cloudless, sunless, windless day. There are no birds chirping. Only a faint monotonous tone somewhere in the range of 8000Hz. You don't notice it at first. You step up to the urinal. Everything fails to engage you. Your mind tries to wander - but gets caught somewhere at the checkered tile. As you reach for the sink, you catch a glimpse of your face in the mirror. Who is that person? Is that me?
