Edgar Family Restaurant/Cenex
Edgar, WI

The largest rest stop between Abbotsford and Wausau on the great east-west thoroughfare of Highway 29 is undoubtedly the double whammy gas and gassy food combo of the Edgar Family Restaurant and Conoco. Fill up the tank. Fill up the stomach. Stock up on deer-hunting magazines and $8.99 mirrored sunglasses. I didn't explore the restaurant portion, but it appears that these two fine establishments may perhaps share a restroom. Maybe not. But I imagine the gas station people wouldn't mind too much if you wandered over to their side of the building to do the duty if you were enjoying a tasty burger at the Edgar Family Restaurant. For history buffs out there, you may be delighted to know that the this restaurant was previously known as the Snack Shack and was reknowned throughout Marathon County for their delectable Dino Burgers. Yes, that would be a hamburger in the shape of a dinosaur. Roar! The restroom was outfitted with black and white accent tiles and a few lines of informative text written with a black marker to aid you during your restroom experience. If you're using the urinal and are thoroughly confused about how to flush the derned thing, don't come running out the cashier asking "how do I flush the derned urinal?" Simply read the helpful text posted on the wall where a flush lever may usually be found. "Urinal flushes automatically." Automatically? Well, I'll be. The wonders of modern technology. Then, when drying your hands, please don't get frustrated if you're having troubles accessing the paper towels. Step back a moment, take a deep breath and compose yourself. Now, maybe there's a clue that will help you find how to get the paper towels out of the derned machine. Hmmmm. There's this lever. When I turn it counter-clockwise ("lefty-loosy"), nothing happens. Wait a minute. What's this say? "Turn clock wise." Ahhh-ha! Paper towels!
