As a restroom-rater, I feel obligated to thoroughly inspect every nook and cranny of the restrooms I review. This often entails investigating under sinks and inside cupboards and utility closets. It is often insightful to discover a cache of surplus toilet paper or janitorial supplies. Given this predilection, I was immediately drawn to the small cubbyhole door adjacent to the urinal in this wonderful neighborhood Italian restaurant. Hmmm, looks like a standard access panel; some pipes, a fusebox. What's this? A bottle of Comet? And why the strange flourescent light? Let me just poke my head in a little further to get a better view. As I peered in and looked to the left, imagine my surprise to find a man standing there washing dishes not more than 4 feet away. What's this guy doing cleaning dishes in a strange restroom cubbyhole. It took me a moment to realize that this was really the kitchen. I reckon if you were ever in an uncomfortable setting at dinner (for instance, dinner with the in-laws or a drug deal about to go bad), it may be a good idea to excuse yourself to the restroom and then escape through the kitchen. By the time your co-diners come to check on you, they will bust into the restroom only to find a partially open cubbyhole door. They will then curse to themselves and bolt out front to try to catch you. And, you already have a 5 minute head start. Ha!As for the rest of the restroom, it was in great shape. Wonderful marble covered the walls and floor. A cute little dresser contained a strange assortment of handkerchiefs, makeup and other things which may or not not be for public use. Perhaps it's just a lost and found of sorts. A single votive candle rested by the handtowels, bringing a overall warmth to the room.
